Now that the Splash Park and playground areas of Fairmont's Palatine Park are finished, Marion County officials are moving on to Phase Two of the project.
The Marion County Economic Development Office said the state has signed off on construction of three boat docks on the Mon River. Thrasher Engineering will complete that project.
Officials said the park's expansion will allow for bass tournaments and other recreational activities.
The project should be finished next spring.

Palatine Park has proven to be a work in progress, as crews installed a new playground on the property. The playground, which is located next to the Splash Park, features two slides, several swings, and a rope ladder.
Commission president Butch Tennant said the park keeps getting bigger and better.
"We are already doing some things in Stage Two we talked about, paving the parking lot and now the playground. So we'll just keep moving every year, moving forward," said Tennant.
The playground will officially open later this week, after crews install a fence around the area. Officials are also looking to add changing tables to the restrooms within the Splash Park.

After four months of construction, the new-and-improved Palatine Park made its official debut to the public on Wednesday.
Governor Earl Ray Tomblin joined state delegates, county officials, and Marion County residents for a grand opening celebration, showcasing the new splash park and renovations to the amphitheater.
The county has added new rails to make the park more handicap accessible and updated the restrooms. Officials plan to put in a playground behind the splash park and a boat ramp at the other end of the park.
Commission president Butch Tennant said it was a day to remember for residents.
"I think it's one of the greatest things to happen in Marion County in 50 years. We're not going to call it a ribbon cutting, it's something special, I want everybody to come down. You can imagine what this park looked like before. We have pictures, and no one ever used this park. We're probably 85-90 percent done with this park," said Tennant.
"It's fun. It's just like the pool, but it's not really like the pool because it has the sprinklers," said Quinton Atkinson, a fan of the splash park.
The Splash Park is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
