Susan Staron Sanders,
Class of 1971, who lives on Thomas Street, is not the only one helping to bring
Christmas cheer to Monongah’s streets.
Chris
Martin, Monongah’s #1 photographer, has decorated the town.
Writes
Monongah Mayor Greg Vandetta:
“I would like to thank Chris Martin for decorating the town. They really look nice.”
Joy
Ross adds: “She is such a Beautiful person and has the Biggest
Heart.”
Susan is the juggernaut behind the
fundraiser to erect Christmas lights on Monongah’s streets. Valerie Vandetta Aldridge, Class of 1973;
Teena Field Ailstock, 1984 North Marion grad; and Mareca
Savonarola are part of Susan’s Christmas sunshine brigade.
The
town of White Hall donated the lights. The fundraiser and Monongah Town Council
are taking care of the $1,000 to erect the lights.
Which
are a perfect complement to Chris’ decorations.
And then there is Town Recorder Patty Steele McCombs, who decorated the Town Hall Christmas tree and the mayor side of the hall. Her husband, Bill McCombs, Class of 1969, is the expert on Monongah’s water.

There’s
never a shortage of volunteers when it comes to adding Christmas cheer to
Monongah. That’s a major advantage of living in a small town.
Growing
up in Monongah, for me, was like living in the best of Americana.
