Found: A pride of Lions from 2007

Talkabout stumbling into hidden treasure.

Roleta Meredith, who runs a Clarksburg Washington Irving newsletter similar to this Monongah High Alumni blog, is the wife of Bill Meredith, Class of 1957.

And . . . well, let Bill explain it:

“John,

“My wife was looking through some old pictures and found this one.  I think it was taken in 2007 on the weekend of our 50th Class Reunion.  We appear to be standing on the steps outside Monongah Middle School, during a tour of the school.

“As I recall, we all enjoyed the tour and were amazed at the changes that had been made to the school over the years.

“Thankfully, Mike Jurasko, our senior class president, has kept the class together by scheduling a monthly luncheon for class members and their spouses each month in the north central West Virginia area.  They are sometimes joined by alumni from other classes.  The more the merrier!!  I get to see them about once or twice a year, when I am in the area during the summer months.

“I've always said that the friends you made in high school are the best friends you will ever have in life.  The older I get, the more that holds true.

Like Paula and I, Bill and Roleta will be spending Christmas in Ohio – their Buckeye Lake other home in this case – before returning to their main home in Sarasota, Florida, the site of three annual Monongah High Alumni Reunion/Florida events. Paula and I will be doing the same, leaving our Tallmadge, Ohio home after the holidays to return to Paula’s home in The Villages, Florida, where every day of the year (and night) is playtime for senior citizens. With 50,000 golf carts for 114,000 residents – you have to be 55 or older to buy a home in The Villages – that obviously is one aspect of the Disneyland for senior citizens atmosphere in The Villages.

With more than 300 activities listed for EVERY day of the year in The Villages’ activities calendar, the only people who don’t have fun there are those, if they exist, who don't want to enjoy life.

Anyway, I thought you would enjoy this photo of the Class of 1957 with their senior yearbook photos, too, except for Jerry Knight’s sophomore picture because he left before graduating from Monongah High but regularly joins the action when the Class of 1957 that he started with gets together.

The 1957 and 1971 classes, spearheaded by Jay Holman, are two of the most active graduation classes from Monongah High these days.

My Class of 1950 didn’t do badly, either, at the 2015 Monongah High Alumni Reunion. Seven of us showed up, which is ONE-THIRD the surviving members of the class. There were 45 in the Class of 1950.
