Larry Salai passes away

Larry Salai, Sr., Class of 1973, who had a bone marrow transplant March 18 because he had AML (Acute Meloid Leukemia), passed away Sunday, December 27.

Larry was from Carolina but lived in Fairmont.

His children are Amanda Salai Kropog, North Marion Class of 1997;  Jennifer Salai of Morgantown; and  Staff Sargent Larry Gene Salai, Jr. of Conroe, Texas.

The Salai family is spread through Monongah High history: James Salai, Class of 1966, who recently return from a trip to Ireland; Mickey Salai Satterfield, Class of 1967; Daniel Salai, Class of 1970; Frank Salai, Class of 1973; Debra Sue Salai Rush, Class of 1975; and Bryan Salai, North Marion 1982.

Larry’s obituary:
Larry Gene Salai, Sr., 60, of Shinnston, died peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born September 25, 1955 in Fairmont, a son of Violet Yuchek Salai of Carolina, WV and the late James Salai.
Survivors include his three children; daughter Jennifer Salai and her fiance' Greg Westfall of Morgantown, daughter Amanda Salai Kropog and her husband TSGT Charles Kropog of Shaw AFB, SC, and son SSGT Larry Gene Salai, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Conroe, TX; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Katie, Braden, Ryleigh and Jonathan; his brother, Dan Salai and his wife Robin; one niece, Jamie Salai; one nephew, Cary Salai; and Regina Humphrey.
Larry loved rebuilding old cars, remodeling houses, woodworking and fishing.
At Larry's request, there will be no public visitation and his wishes for cremation to take place will be honored by his children.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Central United Methodist Church, 301 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 12 Noon until the time of the memorial service at 1 PM with Rev. Hal J. Hevener officiating.
The family has entrusted Larry's professional services to Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Morgantown.
