Monongah High graduate Virginia “Red”
Jacobin celebrated her 88th birthday December 3. She lives in
Monongah.
There are more Jacobins than Jack-O’Lanterns
on Halloween in Monongah.
Joe Jacobin is Virginia’s son. He lives with wife Juanita
Jacobin in South Carolina, where they are Gamecock fans and Joe rides his bike
6 or 7 miles in a day. And gets a lot of beach sand between his toes.
The Jacobins are close friends with Jerry Koloskie, Class of 1975, Albany (New York) University deputy athletic director and
a Monongah High graduate.
Leo
Jacobin, Class of 1959, lives in Lakewood, Colorado, with wife Roberta and
works in Denver. Leo is the son of Christine Tropea Jacobin, Class of
1935, and Leo Jacobin, Class of 1933, who died in 1998. They lived on
Bridge Street in Brookdale near the Meredith family.
Christine Marie
Tropea was a daughter
of Tony and Rose Loss Tropea, who owned the Tropea Grocery on Camden Avenue
(U.S. 19).
Her
siblings were Helen Tropea Riggs Bieglecki, who married Edmund Bieglecki and
lived in Wolverine, Michigan; Vincent Tropea; Marguerite Tropea Matthews, Class
of 1926, who married Simon Matthews, and was the mother of Simon Paul Matthews,
Jr., Class of 1956; and Virginia Tropea Neri, Class of 1931, who married Peter
Neri.
