Something
fishy
Sandy
Weils Shaffer Cook, Class of 1959, has a fish tale.
There
she was in Missippi with husband Bob Cook and her son and his wife. Well, let
Sandy tell it:
Sandy with fish she can prove she caught |
“I sure did catch them” – referring to the
fish in this photo – “I had a much bigger one but, of course, it got away so I
couldn't get a picture. Never was a fisherman but really had a good time that
day.”
The big ones always get away, don’t they?
And grow in size as the tale gets older. J
Sandy and Bob went to Ireland last year, so
maybe they visited the Blarney Castle. Not accusing; just saying. J
By
the way, when Paula and I visited the Blarney Castle, and hung upside-down to
kiss the Blarney Stone and get imbued with blarney forever, I French-kissed it.
It tastes salty.
Sandy
and Bob live on Fort Myers Beach, Florida. They sold their
home in Punta Gorda in 2013 and kept the one on Fort Myers Beach.
After their retirement they moved from Fort Wayne, Indiana to
Fort Myers Beach. Sandy worked in the medical field, mostly in
management. They owned and operated for 25 years an RV Park near Fort
Wayne.
They also have access
to seats in Mountaineer Field several rows down from where I sit in Section
107, so we see each other there.
Sandy’s
first husband, Michael Shaffer, Class of 1957, was a pitcher on Monongah High’s
1955 state champion baseball team.
He also played on the Worthington team with
Nick “Brother” Saban, Alabama’s 4-time national championship football coach (1
with LSU, 3 with Alabama).
Michael passed away in 1982.
If
you have memories of Sandy or the Cook family, email me at jo4wvu@neo.rr.com and I’ll include them in the
Monongah High blog. Thank you.
