Wood addition for John's shrine

Another ‘WV’ item for John’s shrine

Today was a typical day in The Villages, Florida, even though it was a Sunday.

John Olesky,  Class of 1950, and Paula went to Art in the Park where John bought a wooden Mountaineers sign for his Tallmadge, Ohio den, aka WVU shrine.

Then they went to the Whispering Oaks Winery in nearby Oxford for wine-tasting and music. John got the musicians to play "Country Roads."

He explained the significance to them, that John Denver opened new Mountaineer Field in 1980 by playing "Country Roads," which has become the song that is sung passionately in Mountaineer Field and the WVU Coliseum after Mountaineer victories.

Wine & music for John & Paula
They will head to Siesta Key, adjacent to Sarasota, on Thursday through Sunday for Paula's visit with her Kent State colleague, John’s visit with a former Akron newspaper co-worker, the Monongah High alumni reunion at noon Feb. 6 in Bill Meredith's home in Sarasota, the Greek Festival Feb. 7 in St. Barbara’s church with the best Greek food John has had anywhere in the world, including Greece, and walks on that magnificent Siesta Key beach cool sugar-sand.

One month gone already. Only two more left and then it’s back to the -- brrrrrr! -- weather of Northeast Ohio.
