Joyce Carlot’s widower passes away

Joyce Carlot Pellillo’s widower, Albert Pellillo, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8 in Farmington.

Joyce, Class of 1952, passed away in 2012.

Joyce's parents were Julie and Gene Loss Carlot, who operated Carlot’s Grill across the street from Monongah High. 

Their sons are John Pellillo, Class of 1973, of Monongah; Jay Pellillo, Class of 1975, of White Hall; and James Pellillo, Class of 1973.  Their daughter is Julie Pellillo Beafore.

Joyce’s brother Dave Carlot and his wife Caroline of Fairmont once lived in Rose Tropea's house (Tropea Grocery co-owner with husband Tony) and made a ladies'  clothing store out of the building that had previously housed the Tropea grocery store. Dave also re-did Carlot's Grill and made it into a Dairy Mart store. 

Albert’s sister, Helen Massett, passed away in August 2014.

Other Monongah High alumni include Julie Pellillo Beaforte, Class of 1971, of Monongah; and Kimberly Zikefoose Pellillo, Class of 1979.

Albert’s obituary:

Albert J. Pellillo, 83, of Monongah, died Sunday (February 8, 2015) at the John Manchin Sr. Assisted Living Facility in Farmington, WV.  He was born January 22, 1932, in Fairmont, WV the son of the late John and Thelma H. (Perrella) Pellillo.

 He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Joyce A. Carlot Pellillo, and a sister, Helen Massett of Fairmont.

 He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church  in Monongah.  He graduated from East Fairmont High School and attended Fairmont State University. 

Albert was a bricklayer with local union 15 with 43 years of service and served as president of that union for ten years.  He also was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

 He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was also a member of the Sportman’s Square Circle Club. Albert enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and playing bocci.  He loved being with his family and especially with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his four children, one daughter, Julie Beafore and her husband Anthony Beafore; three sons, John E. Pellillo of Monongah, James Pellillo and his wife Kimberly of Fairmont, and Jay Pellillo and his wife Tabitha of White Hall; six grandchildren, Jason Beafore and his wife Lucretia of Monongah, Amanda Abbott and her husband Matthew of Monongah, Dr. Sonni Pellillo of Fort Lauderdale, Fl and Matthew Pellillo U.S. Navy stationed in Japan aboard the USS George Washington; and Dr. Adam Pellillo of Tbilisi, Georgia and Alexandra Pellillo  of Brooklyn, NY and their mother Vickie Mendenhall of White Hall; three great-grandchildren, Sydney and Christopher Beafore of Monongah, and Kaitlyn Abbott of  Fairmont. 

He is also survived by a brother, Eugene Pellillo and his wife Kathy of Great Mills, Maryland; and a brother-in-law, David Carlot and his wife Caroline of Fairmont. He is also survived by many special cousins, and many special nieces and nephews.

    Friends may call at Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont on Sunday from 1-7:00 P.M. with a vigil service at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home led by Deacon Lou Belldina. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Monongah at 10:00 A.M. with the Rev. Father Dass as Celebrant.  Interment will follow at the Mount Carmel  Cemetery in Fairmont.
