Neil Satterfield passes away

Neil Satterfield, Class of 1952, passed away Monday, Feb. 9.

Buck Satterfield, his brother, is Class of 1949 and part of the faceitiously named Gang That Terrorized Marion County. He's a retired West Virginia Highway Patrol Officer living in St. Albans.

Another brother, Bud Satterfield, was Class of 1947.

Neil’s sisters are Mary Virginia “Ginny” Satterfield Lipinski, Class of 1942, of Charleston; Violet Irene Satterfield Thompson, Class of 1942, of Worthington; and Eleanor Louise Satterfield Kennedy, Class of 1946, of Vero Beach, Florida.

Donald Neil Satterfield
(January 7, 1934 - February 9, 2015)
 
Donald Neil Satterfield, 81, formerly of Monongah, passed away Monday February 9, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Morgantown, WV. He was born January 7, 1934 in Monongah, son of the late Orval Vernon and Bessie May (Colvin) Satterfield.

Donald, a scholar of English Literature, taught at West Liberty College, East Fairmont High School and schools in the Maryland / Washington D.C. area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monongah, and an avid WV Mountaineer Sports Fan.

He is survived by two brothers, Orval Vernon “Bud” Satterfield, Jr. and wife Betty Ann of Monongah, WV, Steven Sanders “Buck” Satterfield and wife Rose of St. Albans, WV; three sisters, Mary Virginia “Ginny” Lipinski of Charleston, WV, Violet Irene Thompson of Worthington, WV, Eleanor Louise Kennedy and husband Robert of Vero Beach, FL; eleven beloved nieces and nephews, Jerry Satterfield, Steve Satterfield, Joni Satterfield, Beth Ann Tate and husband Terry, Ralph Donald Thompson III and wife Brenda, Danny “Kim” Thompson and wife Debbie, Sue Ann Lipinski Shelton and husband Walter, Sally Souders and husband Bill, Amy Kennedy, Rebecca Kennedy and husband John, and Susie Kennedy Thomas and husband Dave. He is also survived by several great nieces and great nephews.

 In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a cherished nephew, Jeffrey Vernon Satterfield.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday February 14, in the funeral home with Pastor Bill Preston officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
