Join fellow
Lions at West Virginia Day Picnic
Well, it looks
like we might have a Monongah High Alumni Reunion in The Villages, Florida on
March 1, 2015, when the annual West Virginia Day Picnic happens.
Pat Meredith
Wills, Class of 1950, who lives on Crescent Beach just south of St. Augustine
Beach, Florida with husband Don Wills, a Fairmont West graduate and former
athlete, plans to be there.
So do John Matkovich
Class of 1948, who once lived on Swisher Hill but now resides in Palm
Harbor, Florida with wife Dolores Sweede Matkovich, Class of 1953. Palm Harbor
is near St. Petersburg.
Joyce
Cowart Davis Peck, Class of 1966, also lives in Palm Harbor. Maybe she’s
neighbors to the Matkoviches.
Bob Cottrill,
Class of 1951, who lives in Melbourne, Florida, said he may pop over to The
Villages, for West Virginia Day or just to visit Paula and me.
Leo
Kubiet, Class of 1942, lives in Largo, which is near St. Petersburg.
Joe Martin,
Class of 1959, lives nearby on Treasure Island, Florida, with wife Arlene
Kitchen, a Nova Scotia native, so maybe they’ll make it up for West Virginia
Day in The Villages, too.
We saw Joe and Arlene in the Sarasota, Florida
home of Bill Meredith, Class of 1957, and wife Roleta at the 3rd
annual Monongah High Reunion/Sarasota Feb. 5, 2015.
Even if
you can’t make it for West Virginia Day in the Villages, Paula and I will be
renting in The Villages for three months (January-March, 2015). If you’re near
The Villages call John at (330) 388-4466 and we’ll arrange a Monongah High
mini-reunion of former Lions.
West
Virginia Day Picnic admission will be limited to the first 500 tickets
purchased. The Villages is northwest of Orlando and northeast of Tampa and 30
to 40 minutes from each city.
Send
your check for $18 per person to Karen Rodriguez, a 1960 Fairmont East grad
married to a Fairmont West grad. Make the check out to: West Virginia Day
Picnic.
Mail
it to:
Karen
Rodriquez
2755
Privada Drive
The
Villages, FL 32162
On
a separate piece of paper, put your name, the West Virginia town and county
that you came from (they will seat people by counties so the Marion County
people will be seated together), your email address, your phone number.
The
doors will open at 11 a.m., the catered meal will begin at 12:30 p.m.
See you there!
