Brother’s stepfather passes away

Alabama football coach Nick “Brother” Saban’s stepfather, Bob Pasko, passed away Thursday in Alabama. He lived in Little River, South Carolina.

Mr. Pasko married Brother’s mother, Mary Conaway Saban Pasko, after Brother’s father, Nick Saban, Sr., passed away.

Dene Saban Thompson, the Tide coach's sister who is a teacher in Monongah, is the one who gave him the nickname of Brother, which sticks to this day for those who have known Nick Saban, Sr. since his Carolina and Monongah High days.

Robert “Bob” Pasko, 84, died Thursday, February 19, 2015 at McLeod Seacoast Medical Center.

Born on May 23, 1930 in Farmington, WV, he was the son of the late Tony and Jenny Pasko.

Mr. Pasko was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Tri-State Airport in Huntington, WV.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Mary Conaway (Saban) Pasko; children, Vickie Pasko Sullivan (Mark) of OH, Robert Pasko (Vickie) of WV, John Pasko (Natasha) of FL, Nick Saban (Terry) of AL, Dene Saban Thompson (Leroy) of WV; grandchildren, Nikki Stambaugh, Mark Sullivan (Casey), Kimberly Sullivan, Tessa Thompson (Ray Piggott), George L. Thompson, III (Missy), Judy Thompson (Bradley Myers), J.D. Thompson (Ashley), Nicholas Saban (Kelsie), Kristen Saban (Adam) and 15 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife, Tessie Pasko, 3 brothers and one sister.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, February 22 in Lee Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral Mass will be held at 2 pm on Monday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, where Bob and Mary served as Eucharistic Ministers. Burial will be in Huntington, WV.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nick's Kids Foundation, 1130 University Blvd., B9-201, Tuscaloosa, AL 35406.
