WVU expels 3 students over disturbances 6
hours after Baylor game
MORGANTOWN -
West Virginia University announced Thursday afternoon
that it had expelled three students for "acts of misconduct,"
following last Saturday's WVU-Baylor football game.
The three students were among those charged by local police, according to a
news release from WVU. The expelled students have been prohibited from
university property until they go through proceedings, as described by the Student Conduct Code, the release said.
Other students may also face disciplinary action as law
enforcement investigations are completed, WVU officials said.
"We have made it clear that this University will
hold students accountable for their unlawful behavior," WVU President
Gordon Gee said. "We will not allow individuals to remain enrolled who
commit these crimes and damage the reputation and achievements of our faculty,
staff, students, alumni and community," Gee said.
Anyone with information that could help identify people
involved in the disturbances, is asked to contact Lt. Laurie Burks at the WVU
Police Department at Laurie.Burks@mail.wvu.edu
or 304-293-COPS.
The game ended about 4:15 a.m. The downtown Morgantown disruptions began about 6 hours later.
