Monongah Fire Department
Responded to a
working fire in Fairmont on Tuesday evening.
Marion County 911 said the fire happened just after 8:15
p.m. on Dean Street at a residence.
Chief Andrew Knight from Boothsville VFD, said the fire
started as a grease fire in the kitchen and spread throughout the room, but was
put out in less than 20 minutes. There were no injuries.
Marion County Rescue Squad, Marion County Sheriff's
Department, Boothsville VFD, Pleasant Valley VFD, Monongah VFD and the
Winsfield VFD responded to the scene.
Fracking Driving Farmer Out
As you drive up to La Paix Herb Farm,
the first thing you'd usually see is a sign that reads "peace" in
several languages. Nowadays though, you'll first see a sign reading "for
sale."
Bonhage-Hale said she can't run an organic herb farm with fracking
pads all around her, so she's decided it's time to leave.
"Yes, it's not an easy decision,
but I think it is a wise one if they're going to put all these fracking pads in
Lewis County and elsewhere, and pipelines. I mean, it just goes on and
on," said Bonhage-Hale.
Other county residents are looking
forward to the growth. Lewis County Economic Development Director Mike Herron
said the oil and gas exploration in the county has the potential to add
thousands of jobs in many different areas.
"In the building of the
pipelines, in the compressor facilities, and in the longer term, you're going
to need people to continue to maintain and operate these facilities,"
Herron said.
While that may make life better for
many in the county, Bonhage-Hale said it will destroy her way of life at La
Paix.
"You put 200 wells in the
western part of Lewis County, you're going to have mile to mile fracking pads
and wells. That not only ruins the landscape, it ruins the environment, the air,
the soil," said Bonhage-Hale.
Bonhage-Hale is working to find some
way to preserve La Paix after she leaves, but if it doesn't work, she'll leave
it behind for good.
2 Arrested in Marion Robbery
By Kim Freda, WBOY-TV Assignment Editor
The Marion County Sheriff's Department has arrested two
people on robbery charges.
Lauren Mackenzie Haught, 25, and Justin David McCoy, 26, both of Fairmont, were arrested after a man told deputies he was robbed at gun point by the pair on Straight's Run Road. The man said Haught pointed a gun at him, when McCoy took the gun from Haught and fired it at a hill. McCoy told the man to empty his pockets and removed $900 from the victim's wallet, according to court documents.
Deputies later found a revolver in McCoy's bedroom and the pair confirmed it was the gun used in the crime, according to court documents.
Both Haught and McCoy are charged with robbery or attempted robbery and conspiracy. They are being held in North Central Regional Jail, each in lieu of $200,000 bail.
