Fairmont & Shinnston added 
to Municipal Home Rule cities

Fairmont and Shinnston have become one of 20 Home Rule Cities in West Virginia.

Bluefield, Buckhannon, Charles Town, Clarksburg, Dunbar, Martinsburg, Milton, Morgantown, Nitro, Parkersburg, Ranson, South Charleston, Vienna and Weirton also were added.

The West Virginia Municipal Home Rule Board was created in 2007, and consisted of Bridgeport, Huntington, Charleston and Wheeling. Monday, October 6, the Home Rule Board selected 16 additional municipalities for the Home Rule Pilot Program after hearing 22 applicants.

The story didn’t say which 6 cities were rejected for Home Rule.
