Whereever a pride of Lions gathers
today, raise a toast to Albert Adamson (aka Adamovich), for this is Albert Adamovich
Adamson Memorial Day.
Let Ramona Fullen Michalski, Class of
1949, who lives in Monongah, explain:
John,
Always think of my friend, Albert Adamson
(Adamovich) - MHS - 1947, when Leap Year is here.
Albert is the only person I know who had a
birthday on February 29th. He always reminded us how much younger
he was than the rest of our crowd.
Take care,
Ramona
By Albert’s math, he died in 2014 after
only 17 Feb. 29 birthdays.
Albert changed his name to Albert Adamson as
he began his career in banking.
Barbara Fleming Marsh, also Class of 1947, who lives in Thousand
Oaks, California, learned of Albert’s April 17, 2014 passing from his son,
Scott.
At the time, Barbara wrote:
“Albert and I talked every week or so after I learned of his
serious illness. It was cancer.”
Albert lived in Rockville, Maryland and had 2 sons. He was a widow.
Albert moved to Dearborn, Michigan to help his brother, Andy,
who was dealing with health problems.
Albert retired as vice president of a Silver Springs, Maryland
bank and was the bank’s courier for another five years before heading to
Michigan to help his brother.
Albert once ran the Strand Theater projector, worked in Patsy
Forte’s drug store at the center of downtown Monongah and for Faye Wilson at
the Monongah bank – at the same time, running from one job to the other.
An older brother, Paul, was killed in World War II.
John Adamovich worked at the A&P store in Monongah and dated
Naomi Hatfield.
The sisters were Olga (who passed away while still in high
school), Marguerite and a Fairmont General nurse whose name I don’t know.
Anyway, Lions, raise a toast today for Albert Adamovich Adamson
Day, Feb. 29th. You only get this opportunity once every 4 years.
