Helen Virginia Pulice passes away

Helen Virginia Pulice, whose siblings are a mixture of Monongah and Farmington highs’ graduates, passed away Wednesday, February 24 in Idamay.

Her siblings include Cathy Colanero Johnson, Class of 1977; Mary Rizzo, 1962 Farmington grad; and Rosalie Audia, 1953 Farmington grad.

Nephew Sam Rizzo, 1969 Farmington High grad, was her long-term caretaker.

Born: January 10, 1923
Died: February 24, 2016

Helen Virginia Pulice, 93, of Idamay, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the home of her nephew and long term caretaker, Sam Rizzo. She was born on January 10, 1923 in Viropa in Harrison County, the daughter of Sam and Barbara Pulice and Alex Arso of Idamay.

Virginia was employed as an inspector by Bethlehem Steel in Maryland for 30 years. She was a long time member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Farmington. She was kind and loving to everyone she met. She volunteered at hospitals in Maryland and never met a stranger. She was an avid animal lover, not only to her own animals but to all that crossed her path. She was also a supporter of the Marion County Humane Society.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews. She held a special place in her heart for each one. She is also survived by a special neighbor Eva Tulanowski.

During the last years of her life in addition to her full time caregiver, Sam Rizzo she had amazing and caring health care workers including Courtnie McKnight, Stormy Stine, Randy Ramage, Sara Sigler and Mary Heater Satterfield.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters: Sally Garcia, Catherine Johnson, Mary Rizzo, Frank Pulice, John Pulice, Rose Salucci, Mary Louise Champlin, Barbara Spotts, and Rosalie Audia.

Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington on Friday, February 26, 2016 from 3-8 p.m. where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A mass of Christain burial will be on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Farmington with the Rev. Father Vincy Illickal as Celebrant. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers,the family asks that donations be made to Marion County Humane Society, P.O. There are so many branches of the Pulice family with the same first names that it’s difficult to keep them straight.

There’s Anthony Pulice, Jr., Class of 1945;  his daughter, Toni Pulice Pill; his son, Larry Paul Pulice, deceased. 

Anthony, Jr. and Saverio Pulice, Class of 1942, of Elkton, Maryland lost their sister, Genevieve “Jennie” Pulice, Class of 1936, in 2012. 

Jennie was predeceased by brother James William “Bill” Pulice, Class of 1948, who died in 2001.

Bill’s wife, Geraldine “Jerry” Pulice, died in 2011. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Lucia Costa Palagino.

Toni’s siblings are Julie Pulice Kraley; Jesse James Pulice (married to Chelsie Colisino Pulice); Mark Pulice; and Jamie L. Pulice.

Frank, Jr.’s siblings are Joseph A. Pulice and James Anthony Pulice, both of Arizona; Mary Pulice and Edith Pulice, both of California; Theresa Pulice of Arizona; Beatrice Pulice of Monongah; and the late Sam, Tony and Bill Pulice.

Anthony Pulice, Sr. and Frank Pulice, Sr. were brothers.

Anthony, Jr.’s nephew, Jim Pulice, Class of 1969, was principal of Monongah Middle School.
