Mike Eates’ widow passes away

Jeannie Eates, widow of Mike Eates, Class of 1948, passed away Tuesday, February 16.


Mike’s surviving brothers are Joe Eates, Class of 1945, married to Ann DeMary Eates, Class of 1945, and Tony Eates, Class of 1950, married to Lucy Cann Eates.

Predeceasing Mike were siblings Dominick Eates, Class of 1946, who married the late Mary Larry Eates from Carolina; Nick Eates, Class of 1935; Mary Eates and Angie Eates.

Norma Jean “Jeannie” Gaston Eates, 86, of Fairmont, WV was lovingly welcomed into Heaven to be with her Lord Tuesday, February 16, 2016.

Jeannie was born February 25, 1929, in Mt. Clare, WV, daughter of the late Angus and Blanche Mae Murphy Lamb. She was raised by her mother, Blanche DeLaNoli, and step-father, Louis DeLaNoli, in Clarksburg, WV.

Jeannie graduated from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg. She was employed for over 20 years as a quality control inspector at Anchor Hocking Glass Company in Clarksburg.

Jeannie was a devoted Christian and loved her God. She loved and adored spending time with her family and friends and took pride in being a wonderful, dedicated, and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved providing special dinners and family gatherings for holidays and birthdays.

She always had a smile and a piece of candy for everyone and was happiest when she was helping or giving to others. She never met a stranger and always put others first. She loved children and pets and always carried a place in her heart for her beloved little poodle “Jock”.

Jeannie loved to read romantic novels, grow flowers, design and make jewelry, and crochet and needle point crosses, bookmarkers, and refrigerator magnets for family and friends.

In 1985, Jeannie married a wonderful man, Michael Thomas Eates. Jeannie loved and adored Mike and he became her best friend and the love of her life. Mike was a lifelong member of the Moose Lodge of Fairmont, where he held many distinguished offices. They enjoyed attending local, state, and international meetings, activities, and fund raisers. They also enjoyed supporting Moose Heart and Moose Haven of Florida.

Jeannie is survived by three children from her first marriage, Carolyn Jean Baldwin, Charles Lee Gaston Jr. and Bradford Louis Gaston all of Clarksburg; two brother and sister in laws, Joseph Eates and wife Ann of Monongah, and Anthony Eates and wife Lucy of Fairmont; two grandchildren, Melissa Anne Baldwin and fiancé Joseph Cottrill of Wolf Summit, WV, and Michael Branton Baldwin and fiancé Betsy Copenhaver of Clarksburg; two great-grandchildren, Corey Tanner Baldwin and Brandon Michael Baldwin both of Clarksburg; and a great-great grandchild, Brantley Baldwin. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jeannie was preceded in death by her husband, Michael T. Eates; her first husband, Charles Lee Gaston; her brother, Golden “Bud” Lamb; and her grandparents, Floyd and Clara Murphy.

She will be loved, missed, and treasured by everyone who knew her.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., in Fairmont from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Domico Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Clarksburg.
