Sarah Prahl Kerns Deusenberry passes away

Sarah Jean Prahl Kerns Deusenberry, among the 13 children of the late Paul and Beaulah Toothman Prahl, passed away Monday, May 23.

Her sister, Helen Prahl Graffius, lives in Monongah.

Siblings who predeceased Sarah were Charles “Tinker” Prahl, widow of Judith Ann Hartley; George Prahl, Class of 1965, whose widow is Wilda “Woody” MaHaffy Prahl and whose first wife was Elsie Hinton; Jack Prahl, survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Jones) Prahl; Paul Prahl, Lorraine Prahl Yaquinto, Robert Prahl, Betty Lou Prahl DeVores, Clyde Prahl, Coralee Prahl Delligatti, James Prahl and Thomas Prahl.

Sisters Carolyn Prahl Mikulski, Class of 1966, and Mimi Prahl Tennant, Class of 1969, are Sarah’s nieces. Carolyn’s children are Cheri Mikulski Smith, 1988 North Marion grad, who lives in Morgantown, and Tom Mikulski, son of Tom Mikulski, Class of 1966, who lives in Henderson, Nevada, a Las Vegas suburb.

Dennis Prahl, Class of 1971, probably is Sarah’s nephew.

Sarah Jean Prahl Kerns Deusenberry, 89, of Fairmont passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016, at Fitzwater’s Assisted Living. Sarah was born on August 9, 1926, a daughter of the late Paul and Beulah Prahl. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Nester Kerns and Clyde Deusenberry.

Sarah was a member of Hillview Baptist Church and a volunteer at the Soup Opera. She enjoyed cooking, especially Apple Dumplings and Peanut Butter Fudge. She was a good Christian woman and a true servant to the community.

Mrs. Deusenberry is survived by her daughter, Lana Jimmie and her husband Charlie; her son, Tom Kerns and his wife Cindi; four grandchildren, Brian, Brandi, Tommy Jr., and Kerri; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Graffius; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Sarah was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jeff and Michael; and eleven brothers and sisters.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association, West Virginia Chapter, Morgantown Regional Office, 1299 Pineview Drive, Suite 3, Morgantown, WV 26505.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, from 2-8 p.m. and on Thursday, May 26, 2016, from 10-11 a.m.
The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles Lettrick officiating. A committal service will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.FORDFUNERALHOMES.com
