Monongah native Dan Boone passes away

Retired coal miner Daniel Nay Boone, a son of Harry Clarie and Goldie Sheets Boone who was raised in Monongah, passed away Wednesday, May 11.

Danny’s sisters Delores Boone Bonnett, Class of 1951, lives in Fairmont with husband Duane Bonnett, and Karen Sue Boone Bledsoe, Class of 1960, lives in Clendenin with husband John Bledsoe.

Danny moved to Farmington, where five of his children live.

Died: May 11, 2016

Daniel Nay Boone, 86, of Farmington, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Fairmont Regional Medical Center. He was born April 26, 1930, in Millersville, a son of the late Harry Claire and Goldie Sheets Boone and was raised in Monongah.

He was a coal miner for Eastern Associated Coal Company Federal #1 in Grant Town, having retired with 30 years in the mining industry. He was also a Navy Veteran having served from 1947-1951 and especially proud of his service aboard the USS Sarsfield. He was a member of the UMWA, loved to talk, tell jokes and stories, paint, and enjoyed life and his dog.

Survivors include his 6 children: Daniel Lee (Carol) Boone of Wadestown, Dennis (Lora) Boone of Farmington, Keith W. Boone of Farmington, Jeff (Arlene) Boone of Farmington, Greg Boone of Farmington, and Kimberly (Jerry “Spank”) Cottrill of Farmington; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a brother: Donald Marshall Boone of Fairmont; 3 sisters: Norma Jean Hayhurst of Ft. Myers, FL, Delores (Duane) Bonnett of Fairmont, and Karen Sue (John) Bledsoe of Clendenin; a sister-in-law: Mabel Boone of Ravenswood and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his wife Edna Lorraine Boone who passed away July 24, 1991, a son: Gary Allen Boone and a brother: Harry Eugene Boone.

Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 1-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating.
