Butch Meffe’s widow passes away

Mary Rose Sinisi Meffe, 92, widow of Monongah’s Butch Meffe, passed away Thursday, May 19.

Angelo “Butch” Meffe, Class of 1936, passed in 2013 at the age of 93. Butch and Mary Rose were married for 61 years. She was in the Class of 1942 at Fairview High.

Butch and Jesse Meffe owned Meffe’s Body Shop on Jackson Street. Butch retired in 1989.

Pepsi Meffe had a service station on U.S. 19 adjacent to the UMW Union Hall. Jesse was Jenny & John Meffe’s father.

Butch and Jesse’s parents, Mateo and Santamcia Ciamarra Meffe, owned a tavern on Jackson Street. The Meffe business and the Renzy and Frances Olesky Fazio grocery store were on either side of the home of Ruth and Julius “Gee Gee” Domico on Jackson Street, at the Thomas Street intersection.

 

Margaret Meffe Pellegrin, is a 1953 MHS graduate. Karen Richards Meffe was in the Class of 1967. Margaret DePond Meffe was in the Class of 1945.

Mary Rose’s obituary:

Mary Rose Meffe, 92, of Fairmont died Thursday morning at Fairmont Regional Medical Center. She was born in Fairmont on April 2, 1924 daughter of the late James and Mary Margaret Amoroso Sinisi.

Mary Rose retired from the Marion County Clerk’s Office and previously worked U.S. Marshall’s Office, the Veteran Administration hospital and Steptoe & Johnson 1967-1970.  She was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church.  She was a member of the Business Professional Women’s Club, the Quota Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Catholic Daughters and Saint Anthony Club.

She is survived by her children David Angelo and Patricia Meffe of Kingsport, TN, James Robert and Sherri Meffe of Fairmont, Elisabeth “Betsy” Ann and James Smith of Cranberry Township, PA and Teresa Marie and Brian Hamrick of Florence, KY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Lauren Meffe, Matthew McGinnis, Daren Meffe, Lenzy Meffe, Aaron Hamrick, Eli Hamrick, Isaac Hamrick, and Christopher Smith and one great grandchild Zackary McGinnis. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Mary Rose is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Angelo “Butch” John Meffe on October 17, 2013, one daughter Margaret Ann, a sister and brother-in-law Virginia Meffe and Orlando Meffe,  one brother and sister-in-law Samuel and Norma Jean Sinisi.

Friends and family may call from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday and from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Sunday at the Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday May 23, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Perriello as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Monongah.

A Vigil service will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Angelo "Butch" John Meffe
(August 2, 1920 - October 17, 2013)
Angelo (Butch) John Meffe, 93, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday October 17, 2013 at the John Manchin, Sr. Assisted Living Facility in Farmington, WV. He was born August 2nd, 1920 in Monongah, WV, son of the late Mateo and Santamcia Ciamarra Meffe. 

Angelo (Butch) was an Ex-POW, U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII and was sent to North Africa. He was in the 805th Tank Destroyer Battalion attached to the First Armored Division. He was captured by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel's the Battle of Kasserine Pass. He was a prisoner of war in Germany for 26 months, and was liberated in April 1945 in Hanover, Germany. After returning from the war he started an auto body repair business in 1948 called Meffe Body Shop. He retired from auto body repair in 1989. 
He was a member of Saint Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Fairmont, and was strongly involved in the Ex-POW Barbed Wire Mountaineer Chapter VFW in Fairmont, up until his illness. 
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Rose (Sinisi) Meffe, and will be sadly missed by his 4 children, two sons, David Angelo Meffe and daughter-in-law Patricia Meffe of Kingsport, TN,  James Robert Meffe and daughter-in-law Sherri Meffe of Fairmont, WV; two daughters, Elisabeth (Betsy) Smith and son-in-law James Smith of Cranberry Township, PA, Teresa Maria Hamrick and son-in-law Brian Hamrick of Florence, KY. He is survived by eight grandchildren, Lauren Meffe, Matthew McGinnis, Daren Meffe, Lenzy Meffe, Aaron Hamrick, Eli Hamrick, Isaac Hamrick, and Christopher Smith; a great grandchild, Zackary McGinnis; one sister, Leanna Meffe of Monongah, WV;  a sister-in-law, Norma Jean Sinisi of Fairmont, WV; many nieces and nephews, Janice Miller and husband Michael, Jennifer Leyh and husband Thomas, John Matthew Meffe; great nieces and nephews, Denise Roncone and husband Michael, Kevin Wood and wife Shannon, Janine Watson and husband Jeff;  great-great nieces and nephews, Danielle Williams, Cipriana Greek, Trevor Wood, Logan Walton and husband Jaysen, and Jullian Watson; great-great-great nephews, Jayden Walton, Carter, Mason, and Thomas Greek.
In addition to his parents, Angelo was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ann; three brothers, Pasquale, Orlando and Anthony Meffe; three sisters, Edith Gibbles, Anna Meffe, and Agnes Mary Meffe; a sister-in-law, Virginia Meffe; two brothers-in-law, Samuel Sinisi, Frank Gibbles; and a niece, Tyndara Meffe. 
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Vigil Service being held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening by Fr. Robert Perriello. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday October 21, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Father Douglas Sutton as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Monongah, with full military rights being performed at graveside by the Marion County Veteran's Council. Condolences may be sent online to the family at www.domicofh.com .
