Fairmont West girls state lacrosse champs

The Fairmont Senior girls' lacrosse team defeated Morgantown University Saturday 12-3 to capture the state championship at East-West Stadium.

Seven Polar Bears scored, led by Sofia Sansalone with four goals.

Fairmont Senior improved to 18-2 on the season with the victory.

Renzy Cochran and Sydney Michalski, both with Monongah connections, are on the team.

Renzy is daughter of Ann Marie Preolitti Cochran Parsons and the stepdaughter of Jeff Parsons. Sydney is the daughter of Marion County Parks and Recreation Comission executive director Tony Michalski and Holly Turkett Michalski.

Fairmont West was West Virginia WVSLA lacrosse champs for 5 straight seasons (2008-2012). They’re back on top in 2016.
