Fazio kin in state lacrosse tournament

Renzy Cochran, daughter of Ann Marie Preolitti Cochran Parsons and the late Larry Alan Cochran and stepdaughter of Jeff Parsons and granddaughter of Monongah High graduates Renzy Fazio and Frances Olesky Fazio, is the girl in the back row with the red headband on the undefeated Fairmont West girls lacrosse team.

No. 25 on the right is Sydney Michalski, great-granddaughter of Ramona Fullen Michalski, Class of 1949, who lives in Monongah.

#31 is the uniform number for senior Kayla Decker, who died in a motorcycle accident in September. Kayla’s grandparents are Arlene Marteney Decker Edgell, Class of 1952, and Okey Edgell, Class of 1944.
Their coach is Jon Cain.

Fairmont Senior High was West Virginia WVSLA lacrosse champs for 5 straight seasons (2008-2012) and will play the WVSLA semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Fairmont’s East-West Stadium. As the top seed, they got a first-round bye.

Renzy’s sister, Rhyan, is a freshman and plays JV and varsity.

The Fazio family has been outstanding athletes at Monongah High for decades. Renzy Fazio took me to school on White Day golf course years ago by shooting a 30.

Rhyan’s sister, Renzy, is named after her famous grandfather, who ran the Jackson Street grocery with wife Frances, who was the sister of Helen Olesky Kerekes and my father, John W. Olesky Sr.

Rhyan and Renzy Cochran
The late Letta Louise Cochran was Rhyan and Renzy (Ryan’s sister) Cochran’s other grandmother.

Renzy and Frances’ children are Irene Fazio Preolitti, Class of 1966, who lives in Traction Park, Monongah, with husband Mike Preolitti, Class of 1962; Mary Chris Fazio Ramsey, Class of 1969, married to Tom Ramsey and living on Pike Street in Monongah in the home once owned by Helen and Steve Kerekes, sister of Frances Fazio and John W. Olesky, Sr.; Steve Fazio, Class of 1975, whose wife, Nancy, is deceased; and David Fazio, Class of 1968, married to 1973 Farmington grad Cora, operator of Fazio's Eldercare in Stoney Lonesome.

Renzy Fazio had 12 siblings: John Fazio, the lanky pitcher for Monongah High School who passed away in 2006, survived by widow Dolores Stancheck; Jeanette Fazio DiBiase, who died in 2003; Albert Fazio of New York; Mary Virginia Fazio Pasquale, who died in 2006, and husband Joseph of Fairmont; the late Nick, James, Joseph and Michael; and the Fazio sisters Edith DeCarlo, Elizabeth Domico, Angline Prozzillo and Carmella DePond.

The late John Fazio’s son, also John Fazio, is a Marietta, Ohio College professor.
