Salvation Army looking for kettle volunteers

The Salvation Army serving Marion, Monongalia, and Preston counties has new faces for this year's kettle bell season.
The SA kettle began in 1891, when SA Capt. Joseph McFee remembered his sailor days when a large iron kettle, “Simpson’s Pot,” was put out on the docks to collect coins to help feed the poor.
In six years, the Salvation Army kettles were cooking up enough money nationally to feed 150,000 hungry people over the holidays. Today, the SA kettles are ringing in money and meals all over the world.
SA Officers Lt. Allen Adkins and his wife were living and working in Huntington when they started volunteering for the Salvation Army and then became more involved over the years.
Adkins has been working since June in Morgantown and says the same challenges happen each year with kettle bell season.
"The challenge is finding the kettle workers. We really need volunteers this time of year. Also, if someone is looking for a part-time job and has some extra time. If they would like to come, it gives them the opportunity to earn a little extra more for Christmas and it helps the Salvation Army out,” said Allen Adkins.
If you'd like to volunteer or get a part time job, call the Salvation Army at (304) 296-3525.
