1907 reminder ceremony Dec. 6

The Monongah calendar is a busy one this time of the year, but there’s one that NO ONE should forget: The "We Remember 1907" memorial ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 6 at the Heroine Statue and Bell in Monongah.

It’s to honor those who lost their lives in the horrendous twin-mines explosions Dec. 6, 1907.  Adjoining Monongah mines – No. 6 and No. 8 -- exploded, officially killing 362 but more likely more than 500 miners.

It still is the worse coal mining toll in America’s history.

3,874 miners have been killed in just TWELVE explosions around the world from 1907 to 2014.
