Name wanted for Heroine Statue and Bell area in Monongah

Town Recorder Patty Steele McCombs says Monongah wants to come up a name for the Heroine Statue and Bell area dedicated to the miners and families of the 1907 twin mines explosion.

Patty wrote: “Chris Martin brought the idea to the Town Council meeting. Any suggestions out there, we want to hear them. Chris felt it will give more importance to the location. In the future it will make it easier to explain directions.”

Some of the suggestions so far: Miners Square, Mine Disaster Remembrance Square, Town Square, Heritage Square, Monongah Widow and Orphans Square, Remembrance Square of Miners, Monongah’s Heart Square.

If you have a suggestion, contact Patty on the Monongah Town News Facebook page.
