Nostalgic tour through Fairmont
Will you be near Sarasota Feb. 6,
2015?
Bill Meredith, Class of 1957, who
lives in Sarasota, Florida and Buckeye Lake, Ohio, captured a March 2013 nostalgic
drive through Fairmont in a YouTube video.
The journey through memory lane
begins in West Chester, turns onto Country Club Road, then onto Fairmont Avenue
through downtown, and back out past St. Peter’s Church and C.V. News – Jeanie Nagel
will enjoy a look at the place she once owned with her husband – on Locust
Avenue, past Fairmont State and Fairmont General Hospital and back through West
Chester, where the Monongah High Alumni Reunion once was housed in Westchester
Village, ending after going past the spot where Fairmont Field Club caddies
used to gather after their work day was done, sitting on the stone steps,
hitchhiking a ride home to Monongah.
It brought back a lot of warm memories for
me.
If you have 17½ minutes to spare, particularly if you haven’t been to The
Friendly City for a few decades, click on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbPG9gPOt-A
Speaking of Monongah High Alumni
Reunions, Bill and wife Roleta will be hosting the third annual Monongah High Alumni
Reunion/Sarasota at noon Friday, Feb. 6, 2015 at their Sarasota home. If you
will be near Sarasota then, email John Olesky at jo4wvu@neo.rr.com and let him know you are
coming and if you’ll be bringing a guest so Roleta will know how many to provide
food for.
His address is

3201 Charles Macdonald Dr
Sarasota, FL 34240-8714
There usually are at least a dozen happy, chatting people with memories of Monongah High dancing in their eyes.
If you
can't make it to Sarasota Feb. 6, but are close enough to visit Paula and me in
The Villages, Florida while we're renting on Rainbow Drive for three months
(January-March, 2015), email me or, if it's January, February or March, call me
at (330) 388-4466 and we'll arrange a mini-Monongah High reunion.
There hasn’t
been a get-together of former Lions yet that hasn’t been fun. I speak from
first-hand experience.
Try it. See you in Florida. It's a lot warmer than where you are, I'm guessing, in the winter.
