Harold Dean Kniceley, Class of 1960, of Centreville, Maryland, after reading Friday's Monongah High Alumni blog article about Joe Martin, Class of 1959, of Treasure Island, Florida, being declared cancer free by his Florida doctors, posted Saturday:

“Joe,

“Thought you might be interested to know that Wednesday a week ago, I, too,
was pronounced cancer-free.  A year ago I was diagnosed with Lymphoma in my
right lung.  The first PET scan after diagnosis showed an increase and a spread
to the lymph nodes in my neck.  After about 6 more months of therapy, I was
pronounced clean and clear of all lymphoma.

“I just thought, what a coincidence, Joe Martin and I were born in Carolina, went to Monongah High, both of us went to Fairmont State, then both of us had lymphoma at the same time and are in remission at the same time. Someone up
there is watching over us.

“Harold Kniceley”

Guardian angels must be busy, protecting Carolina’s exports. And doing a heavenly job, too, I might add. Two cancer-free diagnoses within a week. That’s some miracle-brewing.

Harold is a fine arts teacher in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland. Harold and Sandra Kay Miller Kniceley live in Centreville, the county seat of Queen Anne’s County.

Harold’s second cousin, Marsha Jean Kniceley, Class of 1963, who lives in Pinehurst, North Carolina, also grew up in Carolina. Marsha attended the Monongah High Alumni Reunion in 2010.

Marsha’s mother, Margaret Prevatt Kniceley, 90, of Carolina, of course, passed away in 2012. Margaret – a familiar face at Carolina United Methodist Church until her health began to fail --  was living with Marsha in North Carolina.

Queen Anne’s County, on Kent Island, is where Baseball Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx grew up. There is a statue and small park in Sudlersville, where Foxx spent his childhood.

Foxx was the second man in baseball history to hit 500 home runs. Babe Ruth, who grew up in nearby Baltimore, was the first.

Professional photographer Joe is married to artist Arlene Kitchen, who grew up in Nova Scotia.

If you have Carolina memories of Harold or Joe, or the Martin and Kniceley families, email them to John Olesky at jo4wvu@neo.rr.com and I’ll post them on this Monongah High Alumni blog.
