$650 raised for Monongah’s Christmas lights

Despite the efforts of the mean-spirited person who forced a $50 permit onto the baked goods sales and required on-site cooking, the Monongah Christmas Lights fund-raiser was a rousing success.

The Huge Yard Sale brought in $650 through donations, raffle tickets, table rentals and food.

Sophia Richards of Monongah won the Father’s Day basket at the fundraiser raffle.
Susan Staron Sanders, the guiding star for raising money to light up Monongah’s streets for Christmas, thanks “my girls” for helping to overcome the last-minute requirement of on-site cooking and a myriad of other details.

The Thomas Street tornado also thanked Seth and Julian for helping vendors unloading and reloading heavy items. And the late, remarkable Warren Sloan’s son for helping load Susan’s car. “Your dad would be so proud,” Susan wrote.

Warren spent most of his life making sure no one in Monongah went without food or gifts for Christmas.

Three people donated directly for the lights, too.

Susan closed with her accurate prophecy: “Our town will shine.”
