1966 grad Jim Day passes away

Jim Day, Class of 1966, brother of Lorraine Day Patton, Class of 1961, and father of Pilar Day Loynes, who lives in Medford, Oregon, passed away Sunday, June 26 in North Dakota. Previously, he lived in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Jim had ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease because it killed the New York Yankees baseball great. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

He was in the Glee Club, Science Club and junior play cast at Monongah High.

Fairmont State and Nursing School graduate Lorraine lives in Fairmont with husband Bob Patton. The day after Jim passed away, Lorraine lost her oldest friend, Diane Knight, who went to Nursing School with her. Tough week for Lorraine.

Gene Day, Class of 1960, and wife Phyllis Henderson Day, Class of 1961, attended the Monongah High Alumni Reunion in 2016 and 2010. Lorraine was at the Reunion in 2016, 2012, 2008, 2006 and 2005.
