Ruby’s computer latest hacked for ransom

Ruby Memorial of the WVU Medical Center in Morgantown is the latest hospital computer system infected and held for ransom by criminals.

As many as 200 Information Technology staff members have been working around the clock since the issue was detected Tuesday morning in 3,600 of the 14,000 computers.

It began with a $17,000 ransom payoff by Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Other hospitals hacked and ransom demanded:
 
Methodist Hospital in Henderson, Kentucky; and in California, also Chino Valley Medical Center in Chino and Desert Valley Hospital of Victorville, both part of Prime Healthcare Services.
