17 years already? Cicada time in Marion

The Brood V 17-year noisy cicadas will spring up in Marion County this spring.

Cicadas in West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia will surface when the soil 8 inches below the ground reaches 64 degrees.

Other West Virginia counties that will havve cicadas that live about six to eight weeks, enough time to mate and produce the next generation for 2023, are Barbour, Boone, Braxton, Brooke, Cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Hampshire, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Kanawha, Lewis, Marshall, Mason, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Taylor, Tyler, Upshur, Webster, Wetzel and Wood.

Cicadas pose no health threat and do not bite or sting.
