Monongah's Tom Shelosky family
Checking out the Shelosky family

At Monongah High, you couldn’t swing a shillalagh without hitting a Shelosky.

Tom Shelosky, son of Julia Lazorick Shelosky and Stanley “Strob” Shelosky, the late superb golfer at Green Hills who built up his body by laying bricks and cinder blocks for home foundations, still lives in Monongah.

Julia passed away in 2013, Strob in 1993.

George Shelosky was Strob’s brother.

Barbara Shelosky, who stays in touch with the Monells, moved from Monongah to San Diego, California. So did Andrea Shelosky.

Tom’s sister, Becky Shelosky Carvillano, Class of 1961, lives in Fairmont.

1965 Fairmont East High grad Linda Mazza Shelosky, widow of Bernie Shelosky, Class of 1965, who passed away in 2013, lives on Cottage Street in Monongah.

Bernie’s aunt, Sophie Dudiak Shelosky, passed away in 2009. Sophie’s sister was Mary Dudiak Raymond, who was married to Angelo Raymond and the mother of Bobby Raymond (deceased), Class of 1951, and Rosemary Raymond Pagliaro, wife of Carman Pagliaro, who lives in Fairmont.

Bob’s widow, Susan Russell Raymond, lives in White Hall.  Bob and Susan’s children are Paula, married to Sam Adkins and living in Idamay; Robin Long of Colfax; Mary Harr of Pleasant Valley; and another Bob Raymond, married to Susie and living in Fairmont.

Bob Kasper, Class of 1950, who lives in South Lyon, Michigan with a summer home on Grand Lake in Presque Isle, Michigan, remembers the Shelosky family living near the Kaspers in the Frogtown section of Monongah, just before Swisher Hill and U.S. 19. Next to his grandmother's house.

Bob’s sister, Evelyn Kasper Boggess, Class of 1953, still lives in the home where she grew up with Bob and their parents, now with her husband, Okey Boggess. Their mom’s sister was Ursula Shipco.

Evelyn was good friends with Mary Jo Grzbowa,  who married Sam Velari, with the Postal Service.

Bob and John Olesky, Class of 1950, who lives in Tallmadge, Ohio, have been friends since first grade at Sts. Peter and Paul School. John visits Bob at his Grand Lake waterfront summer home and Bob visits John in Tallmadge and goes to a WVU game in Mountaineer Field with him every year.

Bob also was friends with Phil Diamond, a 1950 Fairmont St. Peter’s High School graduate who worked with Bob – aka Satch – at Speedway Market in East Fairmont. And sometimes got into mischief with the faceitiously named Gang That Terrorized Marion County.

Phil lives in North Carolina and is recovering from heart surgery. Tony Eates, Class of 1950, who lives in Fairmont, had a Thanksgiving reunion with Phil in North Carolina.

If you have memories of the Shelosky family, email John Olesky at jo4wvu@neo.rr.com and I’ll add them to this Monongah High Alumni blog.
