Bob Edwards passes away

Bob Edwards, 92, of Monongah passed away Thursday, March 19.

Robert Lincoln Edwards’ obituary:

Robert Lincoln Edwards, 92, of Monongah, went to be with the Lord on Thursday (March 19, 2015) at the Arbors at Fairmont after his battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He was born July 27, 1922, in Fairmont, son of the late Albert and Nettie (Cooper) Edwards.

Bob, or “Pap,” as he was affectionately called by the Arbors staff, was a kind and generous man, always willing to help anyone in need. He will be dearly missed.

Bob retired from the Joanne mine at Rachel. He served with the 2nd Marine Division during World War II, fighting in the battles of Saipan, Tinnian, Tarawa and Okinawa. After the Japanese surrender, he was part of the occupation of Nagasaki. 

He was instrumental in forming the Marine Corps League in Fairmont. He was also a member of Swisher Hill Union Mission Church, where he taught the adult Sunday school class for 25 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Betty Eileen (Jones) Edwards, on April 1, 2005; his brothers, Frank and Philip Edwards; and his sisters, Mary Yantes and Marjorie Hess.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet Edwards Curry and husband Roger, and their son Tim; a daughter, Nancy Edwards Lucas and her son Todd Edwards, whom he raised; and his great-granddaughter, Ashdyn Edwards.

Also surviving are three brothers-in-law, Jack Hess, Bob Jones and Fred Jones; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Edwards.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Chad Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Janes Memorial Cemetery on U.S. 250 in Taylor County with full military rites being performed at graveside by the Marion County Veterans Council.
