George Prahl, 90, passes away

George Prahl, 90, passed away Thursday, March 5 in his Pleasant Valley home in Fairmont. His parents were Paul and Beulah Prahl.

He was in a family of about a dozen children who grew up at No. 5 past Bridge Street Extension and near enough to Coal Hole that all of them became excellent swimmers and divers. 

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Tina Mike Peterson and husband Michael of Fairmont and a stepson, Jim Mike and Faye Mike of Minnesota.

George's first wife was Elsie Hinton. He later remarried Wilda "Woody" MaHaffy Prahl, who survives.


Predeceased sons are George Prahl, Class of 1965, and Dennis Prahl, Class of 1971. They grew up on McCue Avenue in Monongah.

Sharon Prahl Symenski, a 1979 Fairmont East graduate who lives in Colfax, posted about Uncle George’s passing. Her father is George's brother.

Other nieces are sisters Carolyn Prahl Mikulski, Class of 1966, and Mimi Prahl Tennant, Class of 1969.
There also is an Ashley Lynn Symenski Villers.
