Shawn Teets
Firefighter’s home on fire

Monongah firefighter Shawn Teets got a visit from his firehouse buddies Monday, but it was a business, not a social, call.

The North Marion High graduate’s mobile home on Riverview Avenue was on fire.

The electrical fire was contained to a bedroom. Shawn isn’t married.

Shawn was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, according to Monongah Fire Chief Harless McCombs.  Shawn had to go elsewhere to live after the fire.

Shawn wrote:
“After over ten years in the fire service today I was the one calling for help. Thank you to all the departments that responded. Also, thank you to all my friends that have called and messaged. I'm sorry if I haven't gotten back with you. I'm completely overwhelmed with the support from everyone. It means more than you'll ever know!

"Thank you for all your thoughts and kind words!"

In typical Monongah style Shawn Parker has set up an account for fellow firefighter Shawn Teets, who survived his home fire. Wrote Shawn:

“As most of you know my neighbor, co-worker, brother firefighter & good friends Shawn Teets had a fire in his house the other day. What wasn’t damaged by fire was ruined by the heat, smoke & water. So I have opened an account at the Fairmont Federal Credit Union to try & raise a few dollars to help him get back on his feet & back on his own. I’m asking that, if you can, plz help by donating. Every dollar helps. Thank You.”

Harless is married to children’s book author Lisa Myers McCombs, Class of 1977, Y-Teens sponsor at Monongah Middle School where she is a language arts teacher.

Shawn is a captain in the Marion County Department of Homeland Security. He studied biology at Fairmont State.
