Bill Carpenter, Iris Martin Carpenter’s widower, passes away

Bill Carpenter, brother of Monongah High’s Lonnie Carpenter, James Carpenter and Nancy Carpenter Tharp, passed away. Nancy – Clinton “Buck” Tharp’s wife – died in 2009.

Bill was married to the late Iris Delores Martin Carpenter, Class of 1950. Bill was a member of the Monongah United Methodist Church.

Bill’s parents were William and Mary Wright Carpenter.

Bill’s children are Will Carpenter, Class of 1975 and a Marion County teacher since 1975 who lives in Fairmont; Doris Carpenter Rogers, who lives in Charleston; and Amy Carpenter.

His grandchildren were Josh, Mandi and Matt. Bill was soon to be a great-grandfather.

Doris Carpenter Rogers, Class of 1971, lives in Charleston with husband Scott Rogers.

Wrote Tom Fleming, 1982 North Marion grad:
“Our family has lost a beloved family member.   I know he rests in peace as he is now in Heaven with so many he loved who have gone before him. Please give a thought and if u pray please be so kind as to pray for those that are left behind who love him so much.”
Monongah High has had many Carpenters walking its hallways. Such as:
Genevieve Elutrio Carpenter, Class of 1945.
Hellen Snider Carpenter, Class of 1950, who lives in Cottageville, West Virginia.
Debra Urish Carpenter, Class of 1969.
Jim Carpenter, Class of 1970.
Mary Carpenter Evans, Class of 1970.
If you have memories of the Carpenter family, email John Olesky at jo4wvu@neo.rr.com and I'll add the information on this Monongah High Alumni blog.
