John and Karen had four children, who today live in the Northfield, Ohio area. John passed away in 1985.

Before John and Karen moved to Florida, Karen was in a visiting nurse program in Northfield, Ohio and gave physicals to school bus drivers.

Bob Cottrill, Class of 1951, who lives in Melbourne, Florida, was a principal in Northfield and later worked with the Ohio Board of Education to help with transportation arrangements. That's how Bob and Karen's paths crossed and led to get-togethers between the Cottrill and Harbert families.
