Jack Dixon of Mannington, the last of
the 14 children of John and Mattie Lynch Dixon and the father of Monongah’s
Mason Dixon, a 1984 North Marion High graduate, passed away Monday, April 14.

Jack Dixon, 79 of Mannington, passed away at 6:05am, Monday April 14, 2014 at the Heritage Nursing Facility, Bridgeport. He was born in Hot Springs, NC, April 5, 1935 a son of the late John and Mattie Lynch Dixon.

Jack Dixon, 79 of Mannington, passed away at 6:05am, Monday April 14, 2014 at the Heritage Nursing Facility, Bridgeport. He was born in Hot Springs, NC, April 5, 1935 a son of the late John and Mattie Lynch Dixon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Henline Dixon,
January 6, 2003. Surviving are his wife, Cheryl Sawyer Dixon whom he married
April 1, 2005, his children, Jack Christopher Dixon and his wife Cindy, Des
Moines, IA, Michelle “Shelly” Fleming and her husband Jeff, Farmington, Mason
Dixon and his wife Jill, Monongah, Billy Joe Dixon and his wife Laura,
Farmington, his step-children, Jami Velegris and her husband Nick, Richmond,
VA, Travis Smith and his fiancé Amber Brumage, Mannington, his grandchildren,
Shawn Fleming, Justin Fleming, Nicole McBride, Ryan Dixon, Mathew Dixon, Lucas
Dixon, Emily Dixon and Makayla Dixon, his step-grandchildren, Darin Smith,
Derek Smith and Natalie Velegris, his great-grandchildren, Draven Fleming, Savannah
McBride and Jacob McBride, his mother-in-law, June Rinehart, Mannington, and
several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by thirteen brothers and sisters.
Jack was a Korean Veteran, having served with the United States
Marines. He formerly worked as a machinist for Northern Sales, Michael Machine,
Phillips Tool and Minnotte Machine from which he retired. He also owned and
operated North Marion Machine. Jack was a former member of The Loyal Order of
the Moose Lodge #1344, Mannington. He delivered
meals on wheels for the Marion County senior
citizens and enjoyed woodworking, camping and fishing.
He was a Baptist by faith.
Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home, Farmington, from 2-8pm, Wednesday where funeral services will be held at 1pm, Thursday, April 17, with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.hutsonfuneralhomes.com .
