For Bob Cottrill, wedding was a week on the beach
Bob Cottrill, Class of 1951, enjoyed a week on North Carolina’s
Outer Banks and the wedding of his grandson, Brook Park (Cleveland suburb)
resident Christopher Robert Barnes, who is a son of Bob’s daughter, Rhonda
Banks, who lives in Palm Bay, Florida.
Rhonda was widowed when Chris was 9 years old.
The families rented two large houses on the beach for the event and the preliminaries.
All went well till the beachside wedding ceremony –
thunderstorms struck. So Chris and his bride went through the ceremony again,
only indoors this time.
Bob’s wife, Thelma, is “doing fine” after her health problems
and drove from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she has friends and family
while living there for decades, to the Outer Banks festivities at Corolla, an
unincorporated community.
Bob and Thelma live in Melbourne, Florida.
Bob’s wife, the former Barbara Jean Henderson, a 1955 Fairmont
Nursing School graduate, passed away in 2007. Bob married Thelma Brooks in
2011. Barbara, Thelma and Bob had been friends for 20 years.
Bob has two other children, sons Rob
in Atlanta and Randy in Tampa.
Bob was a hard-hitting football star
at Monongah High School.
