53-year Fairmont waitress Dokie Arnett passes away

Glenoka “Dokie” Arnett, who probably was your waitress if you ate at Staud’s, Poky Dot or 3 Ways Inn restaurants, all frequented by Monongah High alumni, passed away Sunday, June 15.

Glenoka "Dokie" Arnett
Glenoka Mae "Dokie" (DeVault) Arnett, 73, of Fairmont, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Fairmont General Hospital surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.
She was born in Marion County on April 11, 1941, a daughter of the late Russell Wayne and Ethel Blanch (Long) DeVault.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, L. Kenneth Arnett, Jr. in August 2008.
Dokie worked in the food service industry throughout her career. She worked as manager at Staud's Restaurant in Fairmont for 23 years, a waitress at Poky Dot for 15 years and most recently at 3 Ways Inn as a waitress for 15 years. She was a member of VFW Post 7048 in Fairmont. She loved her family and friends. She enjoyed attending cookouts with her family, gardening, yard work and decorating and baking cakes.
She is survived by one son, Tom Arnett and his wife Wendy of Fairmont, two daughters, Christine Starcher and her husband Hootie of Barrackville and Kendra Gray and her husband Darrell of Wardensville, seven grandchildren, Genesis Guido, Sammi Guido, Shelli Hixon, Drew Arnett, Robert Hixon, Steven Hixon and Shelby Ribel and seven great grandchildren, Leanna Hixon, Aza Boateng, Bailey Hixon, Caleb Angeline, Serena Hixon, Connor Hixon and Caylee Hixon.
Also surviving is a brother, Grady DeVault and his wife Cathy of Monumental, two sisters, Shirley Wilson and her husband Walter of Michigan and Patty Brotosky of Fairmont; a sister-in-law Donna Woodburn of Fairmont as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth "Greg" Gregory Arnett, several brothers and sisters and a brother-in-law, Frank Brotosky.
In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, her body will be cremated.
The family will receive friends at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. Fairmont on Saturday from 12 - 2 pm. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 2 pm with Pastor Josh Morgan officiating.
