Nick Saban’s Aunt Katie passes away

 

Kathryn “Katie” T. Saban, Class of 1949, passed away Friday January 6. Her parents were Stanley and Anna Mihalic Saban.

She was Alabama football coach Nick Saban’s aunt. Brother was Class of 1969.

Brother is married to Terry Constable Saban. Dianna “Dene” Saban Thompson, Class of 1968, a Monongah Elementary teacher who lives in Hutchinson with husband Leroy, is Nick Saban’s sister.

Katie’s obituary:

Kathryn “Katie” T. Saban, 86, formerly of Carolina, recently of Fazios Elder Care in Monongah passed away Friday January 6, 2017 at Fairmont Regional Medical center. She was born on September 20, 1930 daughter of the late Stanley and Anna Mihalic Saban.

Katie retired from the Owens Illinois Glass plant. She was a member of the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carolina. She enjoyed sports, especially softball, bowling, golf and following the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team.

Katie is survived by her sister JoAnn Saban of Monongah. She is also survived by her nephew Nick and Terry Saban of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and her niece Dianna and George Thompson of Worthington. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Saban Pasko of Birmingham, Alabama, and her Aunt Lucille Mihalic of Fairmont. Katie is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister Mary Saban, her brother Nick Saban and several aunts and uncles.

Friends may call at Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont on Friday from 6-8:00 P.M. Catholic Funeral Rites will be held Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Deacon Lou Belldina officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
