Helen Hess, mother of Mike Hess, Class
of 1975, is at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Helen “has
an infection and it has infected her pacemaker/defibrillator. It will have to
be removed along with the wires and an external temporary installed while
antibiotics kill off the infection. That should take 72 hours and then the
permanent pacemaker/defibrillator will be installed once they are sure that the
infection is gone."
Later, Mike reported that the surgery was postponed because Helen's blood is too thin, which makes it more likely for her to bleed during surgery. They'll try to thicken her blood before surgery.
