Bus hit near Jackie’s house

A tow truck slid on black ice across the center line Wednesday, January 11 and hit a school bus on Paw Paw Creek Road in Baxter only a quarter-mile from the home of Jackie Olesky Straight, Class of 1955.

Marion County School Superintendent Gary Price said the two students on the bus were transported to Fairmont Regional Medical Center, one with whiplash.

The bus driver had a wrist injury, Price said.

The Fairmont Detachment of the West Virginia State Police Department is investigating.

Jackie's home is 100 feet from and about 40 feet higher than the road, but her mailbox takes a regular beating from cars going off the curve by her house in the snow, ice or rain.

It was 2 hours before traffic backups cleared enough for Jackie to drive to Fairmont. She lives 1 mile from Rivesville.
