Jackie Olesky Straight busy with Operation Sweatshirt in December

Veasey writes about Jackie again

Fairmont Times semi-retiree John Veasey wrote a nice article about Jackie Olesky Straight, Class of 1955, who lives in Rivesville and is my sister:

Members of the St. Peter the Fisherman parish recently held its “Operation Sweatshirt Drive” to benefit the patrons of the Soup Opera for Christmas.

“We collected wrapped gifts that contained a sweatshirt, gloves, hat and socks for Christmas,” Jackie Straight said.

“With money donations we (my daughters Belinda Morris and Renee Straight) shopped and wrapped gifts that we purchased.

“Belinda and I delivered 112 Christmas gifts,” Jackie said, noting that they have donated more than 1,800 gifts over the past 17 years.

“It is a warm, fuzzy feeling to know our neighbors are warmer because we care,” she said.

Sheila Tennant, Soup Opera director, told Jackie and Belinda that because of the St. Peter’s donations, her agency was able to meet its goal of gifts.

Jackie wanted me to remind readers to feed the birds when it is cold and snowy.

“I feed more than 300 pounds of sunflower seeds and suet each winter,” she said. “I’m rewarded by watching them eat and interact with other birds.”
