Betsy Linn Rainey of Monongah, who
entertained fellow St. Barbara’s Nursing Home occupants with her piano-playing
and singing, passed away Tuesday, January 24.
Her
daughter, Leigh Rainey Aldridge, lives in Monongah with husband Scott Aldridge,
a 1983 North Marion graduate.
Scott and Greg Aldridge, Class of 1972, and Mark Aldridge, Class of 1973,
are the children of the late Mary Jean “Mickey” Walker Aldridge, Monongah town
clerk for 30 years.

Elizabeth
“Betsy” Linn Rainey, 78, of Monongah passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at
St. Barbara’s Nursing Home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease
and Dementia.
She
was born on September 2, 1938 in Fairmont, WV, daughter of the late George
and Violet (Finch) Linn.
Betsy
grew up in Grafton, WV and graduated from Grafton High School in 1956. She
then attended Fairmont State College and graduated in 1960 with a degree in
Music Education. She then moved to Annapolis, MD where she began her teaching
career. She moved back to Grafton, WV in 1981.
Betsy
attended Boothsville Baptist Church where she was able to live out her
calling and passion as the choir director. She was also a choir director for
numerous other Baptist Churches in Annapolis, MD, Grafton and Fairmont.
She
was an accomplished pianist and vocalist. She frequently sang or played the
piano at weddings. She was well known for her rendition of “O Holy Night” on
Christmas Eve. Betsy continued to play the piano and sing at St. Barbara’s
Nursing Home where she provided much enjoyment for the other residents and
staff. In addition to her musical talents, she loved to crochet and cross
stitch items to give as gifts.
Betsy
is survived by three children, Leigh Aldridge and husband Scott of Monongah,
WV, Ann Jones of New Enterprise, PA, and John David Rainey of Wheeling, WV;
five grandchildren, Claire Jones, Evan Jones, Jonathan Aldridge, Jordon
Aldridge and Jonas Rainey; one sister, Beatrice Giles of Salisbury, MD;
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul and Mary Ann Rainey of
Nicholasville, KY, Joe Williams of Lexington, KY, Lucille Rainey of
Winchester, KY, Stella Rainey of Tuscaloosa, AL; and many nieces and nephews.
In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold
Dean Rainey, whom she married on June 16, 1962; two brothers, John Lee Linn,
and Russell Linn; a sister, Mildren Kopacki; and a son-in-law, Marty Jones.
The
family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in
Fairmont from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held at 3:00
p.m. Saturday January 28, in the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Nuzum
officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Online condolences
