Mark Basagic passes away

Fairmont West grad Mark Basagic, son of Julie Basagic, Class of 1945, and Ann Vukovich Basagic, passed away Thursday, January 12.

David Julius Basagic of Franklin, West Virginia, and John Joseph Basagic, Class of 1966, of Monongah are his brothers. A sister, Greta Rose Cain, predeceased Mark.

There’s Pete Basagic, Class of 1972, son of Richard Basagic, Class of 1948, and married to married Cathy Martin, also a Monongah High grad; Richard “Richie” Basagic, Class of 1975, who works at FirstEnergy and lives in Fairmont; Cathy Basagic, Fairmon State catering programs coordinator, who lives in Monongah; Goldie Basagic Huffman, Class of 1974, who lives in Monongah with husband John Huffman;  Sandra Basagic, who lives in Fairmont; Hassan Basagic, Class of 1963; Hassan Basagic, Jr., Class of 1941; Goldie Basagic Myers, Class of 1943; Bruce Basagic, Class of 1969; Deborah Basagic Berry, Class of 1970; Justin Basagic and Debbie Puluha Basagic.

Mark Mathew Basagic, age 65 of Petersburg, WV, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at his residence.
He was born in Clarksburg, WV on January 11, 1952, the son of Anne (Vukovich) Basagic of Monongah, WV and the late Julius Basagic. His best friend and companion of 37 years, Anna Marie Kuzniar survives in Petersburg.
Mr. Basagic graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1970 and attended Fairmont State College where he was a Member of the Fraternity of Tau Beta Iota. He graduated from Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science in 1978 and he was a member of the Monongah Baptist Church.
Mark had worked for Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown, WV for several years. He joined the Basagic Funeral Home staff in Petersburg in 1985 and worked there until his retirement in 2002. Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, baking bread and WVU sports.
In addition to his mother and Anna, Mark is also survived by: a son, Grant Parker Basagic of Petersburg; a sister, Janet Ann Basagic of Fountain Hills, AZ; 2 brothers, David Julius Basagic of Franklin, WV and John Joseph Basagic of Monongah, WV; 3 nephews, Morgan Basagic of Franklin, Neil Basagic of Petersburg, and David Cain of Monongah; 2 great nieces, Britlee and Tinley and a great nephew, Bryce.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Greta Rose Cain and a nephew, Julian Anthony Basagic.
Mr. Basagic's family will receive friends on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 6-8 pm at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral services will be on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 2 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Cantu officiating. Interment will be at the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg, WV.
