Hip keeping Mary Louise Baker Orsini from Florida

It’s been 9 months since Mary Louise Baker Orsini, who began at Monongah High with the Class of 1948, broke her hip, but the pesky rascal will keep her from warming up in Florida this winter.

Writes Mary about the February Monongah High Alumni Reunion/Florida:

“I'm sorry, but we won’t be there this year. Since I broke my hip the last of April 2015, I don't know if I could even ride that far. I'd love to be there, even with a broken hip.

Mary Louise & Tony Orsini
“I'm doing very well, going shopping, walking without help, but now with the snow, I got to be careful. We will see you again, even if it has to be at lunch somewhere.”

Mary and husband of 66 years, Tony Orsini, Class of 1946, live on Swisher Hill.
Last year Mary and Tony had a reunion with Bob Cottrill, Class of 1951, who lives in Melbourne, Florida.
Bob played football with Tony’s late brothers, Tom "Bum" Orsini, Class of 1950, whose widow, Peggy Rauer Orsini, lives in Titusville, Florida, and Bum’s brother, Cocoa Orsini.
Tony was one of the six athletic Monongah High Orsini brothers: Tom “Bum”, Larry, Jimmy, Junior (Cocoa) and Bill. Only 2 are still living, Tony and Jimmy.   Jimmy lives in Virginia Beach, Va. Nick Orsini, Jr., Class of 1949, had moved to Warren, Ohio. Larry was Class of 1945.
The Orsini family had a grocery store in Worthington run by mom, Sylvia Orsini.

Tom passed away in 2005.
Mary Louise and Tony’s daughter, Terri, lives in Durham, North Carolina and is the widow of Dr. Jerry D. Saye, who went from Fairmont State to be librarian with School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1985 till his 2012 passing.
As for the 6th marvelous Monongah High Alumni Reunion in Florida, if you will be on the Gulf Coast side of Florida in February, email Bill Meredith at billmere@aol.com or phone Bill at (941) 342-0030 or (614) 582-0335 because he has to make reservations.

Bill will pick a date when the most former Lions can be in Punta Gorda. For those farther north, there will be a carpool from Bill and Roleta’s home in Sarasota for the 54-mile journey to Punta Gorda.

Contact Bill soon so he can give the restaurant the number of reservations to make.
