Welcome to the Eyes Club, Laurann

Laurann Vance Allen, Class of 1971, will join the three million Americans who have cataract surgery each year at a $3.4 BILLION cost to Medicare. I’ve had both of my eyes done and the improvement is astounding.

She posted:

Found out I must have cataract surgery on both eyes. Left is much worse than right. Go to see surgeon on July 1. Keep me in your prayers please.”

Laurann should be thrilled that she’s not living in the 5th century BC when they used a blunt instrument to shatter the zonules in the eye. The first surgical removal of a cataract was in Paris in 1748. Dr. Charles Kelman in 1967 came up with the phacoemulsification surgery that has been improved into today’s highly successful surgries.

Laurann is married and lives in Enterprise and worked at WVU Hospitals. Nicole Knox Vance is her sister from Catawba who lives in Fairmont.

Stanley Vance is Class of 1964. Sue Vance Latham is Class of 1975. Howard Vance, who lives in Worthington, is a 1985 North Marion High grad.
