Monongah’s Florence Hinerman Blocker passes away

Monongah native Florence Hinerman Blocker, 93, passed away Saturday, June 6. She worked in eight Fairmont businesses in her life.

Judy Blocker Kincaid, Class of 1965, who was Maid of Marion in 1964.

Mitzi Blocker Shaver, Class of 1963.

Scott Blocker, Class of 1968, son of the late Lucille Loss Blocker and her widower, Richard Blocker of Monongah, lives in Clarksburg.

Susan Blocker Metz, Class of 1967.

Victoria Blocker Nottingham, Class of 1969, Scott’s sister, lives in Worthington with husband Tom.

Marguerite Blocker, Class of 1937, married Bob Nichols, the Monongah barber who became the town mayor.

 

Ann Chicako, Class of 1937, married another Richard Blocker.

Florence Blocker

Florence Jane Blocker, 93, of Fairmont passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Fairmont Regional Medical Center. She was born in Monongah on April 24, 1922 a daughter of the late William Hinerman and Evelyn Scritchfield Hinerman.


Mrs. Blocker retired from Fairmont State University after 17 years of service in the dining hall. Prior to that she had worked at the A & P Store in Fairmont for 42 years. In addition she had employed for Dr. Johnson, a local dentist, Palace Restaurant, Select Pastries, Murphy's, Owens Illinois and Westinghouse. She was a Methodist by Faith.


Following her retirement, Florence enjoy spending time at her camp at Big Bear Lake.


She is survived by her grandsons, whom she loved and adored, Alex "A C" Stefko and Troy Stefko of Fairmont; her special great granddaughter, Darian Wilson and her Fiancée, Ryan Southern and her great great granddaughter, Ashlynn Paige Southern.
Also surviving are a brother, Donnie Hinerman, Brother-in-law, Mitch Cartney, Richard Blocker; several nieces and nephews, including Kit Labossiere and close friends, Oscar and Joyce Cain.


In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband Carl Blocker in 1979 and her only child, her daughter Lana Jean Blocker Stefko in 2003; her son-in-law Alex Stefko; three sisters, June Gump, Delores Klein and Shirley Cartney.


In keeping with the wishes of the deceased her body will be cremated.
