Monongah Baptist Church
Nedra Lucille Holbert Mason celebrated her 100th birthday in Monongah Baptist Church, 256 Lyndon Avenue, Monongah on Saturday with family and friends. Joining her were her daughters, who live with Lucille in Shinnston.

They are Patricia Sue Mason Wells, Class of 1955, and Pamela Mason Stanholtz, Class of 1970, who works at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.

The “girls” drive mama from Shinnston to Monongah every Sunday so that Lucille can attend Monongah Baptist Church. She’s been a member for nearly half of the church’s 200+ years of existence.

If you still want to mail your congratulations to Lucille, her address is:

Lucille Holbert Mason
51 Kessla Way

Shinnston, WV 26431

And yes, unless I miscounted (twice), there are 100 candles on the photo montage above, plus one "to grow on."

Kudos and felicitations, Lucille!

I got this email today (7-9-14) from Pam Mason Shanholtz and her sister, Patty Sue Mason Wells:

Dear John:

My sister, Patty Sue Wells, and I, Pam Shanholtz, want to thank you for the kind words that you put into Mr. Veasey's column regarding our mother, Nedra Lucille Mason's 100th birthday.  We had no idea how Mr. Veasey got the information.  Your sister, Jackie, told us at mother's open house celebration of your kindness.  It is our privilege to care for our mom as she cared for us throughout our lives.  She continues to be our inspiration as she daily shows us about growing old with grace.

Thank You Again,

Patty and Pam

This is exactly why I put in hours every day finding information about Monongah High alumni, and sharing it with all of us. What a heart-warming story of a mother and her two daughters! Lions are fabulous people.
